Asmara Abigail is an emerging actress in Indonesian film industry. Her first feature film entitled “Setan Jawa”, directed by Indonesian Maestro Garin Nugroho, is a black and white silent film accompanied by live orchestra. The film was world premiered in Asia Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts in Melbourne in 2017 and has been traveling around the world ever since. Because of Asmara's dancing background, Garin envisioned her expressing Asih's character through a blending aesthetic form of contemporary dance and traditional Javanese movements.

Asmara starred in short films “Jenny” (2016) and “Don’t Blink!” (2017) and feature films i.e. “Satan's Slave” (Best Selling Indonesian Film in 2017), “Gundala” (Toronto International Film Festival - 2019), “Impetigore” (Sundance Film Festival - 2019). All are the works by Indonesian multi-awarded, Joko Anwar.

Asmara was featured in a Malaysian Production, Nam Ron's “Crossroads: One Two Jaga” (2018) which competed at Udine Far East Film Festival 2018 and now is available in Netflix.

Asmara took part in a Singaporean short film production, Michael Kam’s “Melodi” (2017), which was part of Berlinale Short Form Station 2015. “Melodi” was premiered internationally in 24th Palm Springs International Film Festival 2018.

In 2019 Asmara starred in Yosep Anggi Noen's “The Science of Fictions”, which received Special Jury Prize in the International Competition Locarno Film Festival 2019.

At the 4th International Film Festival and Awards Macao, Asmara is awarded as the Asian Stars: Up Next by Variety Magazine along with 7 other actors and actresses across Asia. At the same time her film “Homecoming” directed by Adriyanto Dewo was premiered and in competition section of the above-mentioned Festival in Macao and later in CinemAsia Amsterdam in March 2020.

Her upcoming short film “Il Vespista” (2020) is an Italian production directed by Francesco Crivaro. It will be screened at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

Asmara speaks fluently Indonesian, English and also Italian thanks to her study in Italy. She has pursued her study in Milan, Italy, with a scholarship from Haute Future Fashion Academy & Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and obtained her master degree cum laude in Marketing and Branding for Luxury Products (2014). A year later she won an art summer course scholarship in Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano. Two years after that she was a winner of the scholarship granted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through Istituto Italiano di Cultura Jakarta to improve her Italian language ability at the Università per Straneri di Perugia.

Her passion in dance led her to join three contemporary dance workshops in Jakarta. The first one was in June 2015 with Italian renowned dance company Artemis Danza. Then the same year in November she joined a workshop with Tecnologia Filosofica, a community of artists based in Turin.  The last one was in May 2017 with Campo Largo Nomads - an Italian contemporary dance group based in Berlin. In August 2018 she also participated in acting workshop with maestro Enrico Bonavera, the Harlequin of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa.
